Mildred Faye (Hummer) Baker, Kingsport, TN
Mildred Faye (Hummer) Baker, 74, of Kingsport, TN passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Holston Valley Hospital.
She was born in Scott County, VA on December 19, 1944 to the late Noble and Margie Marie (Quillen) Hall. She is also preceded in death by the father of her children, Glen Alvin Hummer.
Mildred was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. She was of the Baptist faith. Mildred was employed at J.C. Penny for 30 years before retiring in 1995. After retirement she liked to plant and work in her flowers until her health kept her from doing so. She loved living the country life.
Mildred leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 19 years, Fred Allen Baker, of the home; daughter, Marquise Felicia Hummer, Johnson City, TN; son, Glenn Alan Hummer, Johnson City, TN; sisters, Vonda Corder, Dungannon, VA, and Ellen (Susie) Johnson and husband Herb, Church Hill, TN; brothers, Coy Hall, Church Hill, TN, Charles Hall and wife Barbara, Church Hill, TN, and Mack Quillen and wife Dorothy, Dungannon, VA; grandchildren, Sarah Ròchelle Hunley and husband Kent, and Rachel Musick; great-grandson, Carter Glenn/Ray Hunley; along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends at Gate City Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Danny Sykes officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Carter Cemetery in Fort Blackmore, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers
Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home on Wednesday morning by 10:00 a.m., to go in procession to the cemetery.
