Jeffrey Lee Baker, 61, departed this life Monday, October 10, 2011, following a brief illness. Jeff was born January 11, 1950 and graduated from Gate City High School where he excelled in sports. He continued his football career at the Georgia Institute of Technology and was inducted into the Virginia High School League Football Hall of Fame in 1995. Upon receiving his degree in Industrial Management, Jeff began his career in the trucking industry and at present was President of Land Span, Inc., Lakeland, FL.
Jeff was the son of the late Joe P. and June Quillen Baker. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Brocklin Baker, maternal grandparents Belt H. and Carrie Seaver Quillen and paternal grandparents C.I and Florida Baker.
Survivors include his wife Ruth S. Baker, Lakeland, FL, daughters Misty Baker-Temple, Atlanta, GA, Kristin Rexford (Scott), Katie Burgner (Daryl), and Kari Lott (Danny), all of Lakeland. Sister Josephine Herron (Tommy A.), brother Jim B. Baker, Gray, TN, two grandsons, one niece, one great nephew, several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial Services will be Friday, October 21, 2011, at 11am at Gate City United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. Bob Lynch will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Rotary Club of Scott County, Shoe Fund. P.O. Box 728 Gat City, VA 24251
