Roy Isaac Ashworth, 82, born September 5, 1930 passed away Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law surrounded by his loving family.
He was a lifelong resident of Scott County, VA. He was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Neil Supply, Co. He was a deacon of Pendleton's Freewill Baptist Church.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Carrie Egan Ashworth; sisters, Annie Ashworth and Mabel Tipton and husband, Charles; mother and father-in-law, Maude and Warner Dockery; brother-in-law, Darrell Dockery; and sister-in-law, Doris Dockery.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years and the love of his life, Roxie Dockery Ashworth, Ft. Blackmore, VA; his loving daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Matt Faulkner, Kingsport, TN; sisters and brothers, Juanita and Odker Wallen, Lena and Ray Frazier, Billie Jo and Donnie Stewart, Sandra and Glen Poore, and Carolyn Malone; his nieces and nephews, whom he loved very much, and his "grandchildren", Jennifer, Samantha, Logan, Chloe, Addison, Emma, and Elijah.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2013 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Pastor Kevin Sanders and Pastor Russell Sanders officiating. The Pendleton's Singers will provide the music.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 1, 2013 at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post # 265, Gate City, VA, assisted by members of the Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard. David Dockery, Dwain Dingus, Billy Egan, Larry Lane, Otis Dockery, Jr., Rick Stewart, and KeithWallen will serve as pallbearers. Stanford Presley, B.J. Johnson, and Tony Dingus will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m., to go in procession to the graveside service.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to our sisters, Teresa Lane and her dear family, Debbie Dockery. Joyce Tipton, Shelby Ervin, and Billy and Barbara Egan who are angles on earth; and to Dr. Andy Delwadia, Judy, Michelle, and Mountain States Hospice for their love and care of Roy.
