Arvel Lee Lewis, 90, Yuma, VA, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

He was born in Scott County, VA, on August 21, 1934, to the late Simmie C. Lewis, and Ruby Jane (Quillen) Lewis.

Arvel worked at Lynn Garden Hardware, Foote Mineral Co., and retired from TN Eastman Co., in 1996 after many years of service.

He lived a long, happy life, enjoying working alongside his brother-in-law, Cecil Stapleton, on building houses and other special projects. He loved getting his visits and hugs from his great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simmie and Ruby Quillen Lewis; brothers, Arrie, Robert, Willie, and Ellis Lewis; sisters, Myrtle Darnell and Jerleen Lewis; special brothers-in-law, Cecil Stapleton and “Babe” Stapleton; and special uncle Fred Quillen.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Stapleton Lewis, who took diligent care of him until the day he died; sisters, June White, Betty Bowen, Lois Dockery (Fred), and Lisa Snodgrass (Steve); sisters-in-law, Lana Faye Lewis, and Shirley Stapleton; and a host of nieces and nephews who were very precious to him.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Sunday, March 16, 2025, in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the Gate City Funeral Home. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00p.m., Monday, March 17, 2025, at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA, with Rev. Randall Stapleton officiating.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15p.m., to go in procession to the graveside service. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Larry Tipton and Billy White will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to niece, Shirley Sullivan and late husband, Paul Fred; nephew, Randall Stapleton and wife, Michelle; and sisters, Betty and Lois for their visits and help. They would also like to extend their thanks to special neighbors Larry and Brenda Tipton and children, Adam and Whitney for their friendship and help, and longtime nurse Linda Jackson, homecare nurses, Michelle Armstrong, and Katie Eldridge for their love and care of Arvel. Also, thank you to special niece, Jennifer Barker, for her kind help.
