Anna Ruth Duncan- Gate City, VA

Anna Ruth Duncan, 83, Gate City, VA, passed away, Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Shelia Free after an extended illness, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on February 11, 1941, in Scott County, VA, to the late Reverend Fred and Ella Lane. 

She retired from Lynn Garden Restaurant after 25 plus years as a cook. She enjoyed working in her flowers and spending time with her family and her fur baby, Chloe. She was of the Baptist Faith. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jones and father of her children, James H. Duncan. 

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Shelia Free (Philip), Alvin Duncan, Jay Duncan (Teresa), Michael Duncan, Ricky Duncan, Sherry Lane, Rhonda Bridwell (Elbert), Tammy Duncan; sisters, Shirley Roach, and Barbara Cavin (Russ); brother, L.C. Lane (Joyce); grandchildren, Shannon Alley, Jennifer Jones (Chad), Jayden Stacey, Krystal Lucas (Dustin), Donovon Duncan (Amanda), Patrick Duncan (Megan), Niki and Anna Duncan, Kellie Kaiko Mitch), Danielle Barnes, Joshua Hutchins (Evelyn), Michelle McPherson (Brian), Allison, Adam, and Eric Bishop; great-grandchildren, Brittany Blevins (Seth), Mason and Bella Horne, Jaxon and Chance Lucas, Mason Darnell, Walker Duncan, Weston Barnes, Leighton and Norah McPherson, Ezra and Eleanor Hutchins, Addilynn, Isaiah, and Olivia Bishop, Emerson Almaroad; great-great grandchildren, Kaylee and Bentley Blevins.

The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Monday, April 22, 2024, at the Gate City Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 7:00p.m., in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Bill Tignor officiating. Joyful Journey will provide the music. 

Graveside services will be conducted at 1;00p.m., Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at the Powers Cemetery, Robinette Valley. Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers. 

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15p.m., Tuesday, to go in procession to the graveside service.
