Gilbert (Joey) Reed Alley, Jr., 56, Limestone, TN passed away, Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a short battle with cancer.
Joey was born in Scott County, VA on May 12, 1959. He was the son of the late Gilbert Reed and Laura Davidson Alley, Sr.
He was a lover of life, quick with a joke and always had a smile on his face. It was often said that he was the “life of the party” and could light up a room like no one else. His gentle spirit will never be forgotten.
Joey was of the Baptist faith and attended Durham’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Brenda Fields and nephew, Steven Dockery preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa McAmis Alley, Limestone, TN; step children, Whitney Thornburg and Dalton Thornburg; granddaughter, Abby Herceg; sister, Ruby McDavid, Duffield, VA, Rita Sue Dockery and husband, Darryl, Gate City, VA, and Jewell Dockery and husband, Freddie, Dungannon, VA; his mother and father-in-law, Judy and Phil Roark, Greenville, TN; brothers-in-law, Ronald McAmis and wife, Teresa, Kingsport, TN and Roger Roark, Kingsport, TN; special niece, Jokayla (Dockery) Roberts; great niece, Kacie McConnell; along with several other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his caregivers, Judy Roark and Rita Sue Dockery and Wellmont Hospice, especially his nurse, Lee for their love and care of Joey.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Terry Rhoton and Rev. Gorman McMurray officiating. Durham’s Chapel Quartet will provide the music.
It was Joey’s request to be cremated upon completion of his service.
