Vena Ruth Akers – Duffield, VA
Mrs. Vena Ruth Akers, 84, Duffield, VA passed away, Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Akers was born in Greeneville, TN on September 13, 1931, to the late William and Jennie Elizabeth Johnson Cutshaw. Mrs. Akers lived her life in service to her God, her family and her church.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by 7 sisters and 5 brothers.
She is survived by her husband Rev. William “Bill” Kyle Akers, Duffield, VA; daughters, Anita Summey and husband Brickey “Jr”, Clinchport, VA, Belinda Maynard and husband Mike, Sparta, TN; son Raymond Akers, Bristol, VA; sister, Edna Sanders, Greeneville, TN; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Joe Hill officiating. Marvin and Susie Leonard will provide the music, with a special piano solo performed by Raymond Akers.
Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Allen Cemetery, Rye Cove, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:15 p.m., Sunday to go in procession to the graveside service.
